Richard
Carson has more than 25 years of experience in land use planning,
environmental and development issues, including positions in city,
county, regional and state agencies in Alaska, California, Oregon
and Washington. He is currently the Director of Community Development
for Clark County, which is the fastest growing county in Washington.
He has also served as the Director of Planning for Metro (the Portland,
Oregon metropolitan area's regional government). Carson has written
and spoken extensively on planning issues, with more than 90 published
articles and dozens of speeches to state and national planning meetings
and conferences. He speaks with both candor and humor about the realities
of planning, addressing the pros and cons of smart growth, new urbanism,
and regional and statewide planning programs.
