In 2002, Cunningham’s book The
Restoration Economy Cunningham is a featured writer for ReNew Canada, a leading periodical on the practice of community revitalization, infrastructure renewal, and natural resource restoration. From 1996 to 2002, Cunningham was Director for Strategic Initiatives at the Construction Specifications Institute, an association of 18,000 architects, engineers, contractors, and manufacturers which sets standards for quality in commercial construction. He served as CSI's staff liaison to the U.S. Green Building Council. He has presented at hundreds of venues around the world, including civic, government, industry, and professional groups. He has lectured at dozens of universities (such as a two-day executive seminar on restorative development at the Harvard University School of Design), including non-US schools ranging from from the University of Guadalajara (Mexico), London South Bank University (UK), and Roskilde University (Denmark). The U.S. State Department sponsored his 2006 speaking tour of Poland. Cunningham speaks on restorative community development from both the public and private sector point of view.
