Herd is the writer, producer, and on-camera naturalist host of Nature
Newswatch, a daily feature news presentation from North America's
wild outdoors. The founder and Director Emeritus of The Roving Nature
Center, America's first fully mobile environmental education center,
he developed its award winning environmental and human ecology education
programs. Herd's specialty is phenology - the "when" of
nature - the periodic biological changes, adaptations and behaviors
of North America's diverse wildlife communities and their interrelationships
within the natural, altered, human, and historic environments. His
speaking topics include ecosystems and responsible stewardship, the
historic use of natural resources by pre-colonial Woodland Indians,
and special seasonal media presentations on wildlife activity, diversity
and conservation.
