An
environmental attorney, writer, educator, and leader in the growing
movement for river and watershed protection and restoration, he is
the President and CEO of the Rivers Foundation of the Americas. Before
taking on that role, he was executive director for the Westport River
Watershed Alliance and the Merrimack River Watershed Council, co-founded
the Coalition for Buzzards Bay and the New England Coastal Campaign,
and worked for American Rivers, the River Network, and For the Sake
of the Salmon. He founded and is a senior fellow at the Watershed
Management Professional Program at Portland State University, and
his articles have appeared in many academic journals as well as in
The New York Times and other newspapers. He has given more
than 100 presentations on watershed and river protection and restoration,
dam removal, forestry and rivers, water law, and such specific systems
as the Columbia, the Colorado, and the Copper River of Alaska.
