The author of 16 books on the environment, rivers, and adventure travel, Tim Palmer has received numerous awards for his books and for his conservation work. The Columbia won the National Outdoor Book Award in 1998, The Heart of America: Our Landscape, Our Future was named best book of the year in its category by the Independent Publishers Association, and (with William Neill) Yosemite: The Promise of Wildness received the Director's Award from the National Park Service in 1996. His newest book, Rivers of America, was released in September 2006 from Harry N. Abrams, the preeminent publisher of high-quality art books in the world.
He has been recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award from American Rivers, and he has been named one of the nation's ten top river conservationists by Paddler Magazine. A seasoned speaker and professional photographer, he has been giving talks to national audiences on rivers, the environment, and adventure travel for twenty years.
