Nattrass has been retained as sustainability advisor to many organizations, both private and public, including Starbucks and Nike in the private sector, and NASA and the U.S. Army in the public sector. A former All-American athlete, he had a twenty-year career in corporate law and finance prior to dedicating himself to corporate responsibility and sustainability. Having both served as CEO of a public manufacturing company and led the consulting practice of The Natural Step in the U.S. and Canada, he brings a balanced and informed perspective to the issues of sustainability and corporate responsibility. In 2004, he was awarded a Batten Fellowship at the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration, University of Virginia, to pursue research and writing on sustainable business practices and sustainable innovation.
